Entrevista com Enieverson “Ameba” por Joanna de Assis
1. How does the nick name Ameba came from?
It is not because of the band Amebix, (they sound fucking great!). This is a shitty nick name I had created when I was adolescent and used to pitch “AMEBA”. Since then I have been presenting myself to people under this code-name. Wrong are the ones who believe that an amoeba has no brains...
2. Punk Icon, rssss, my friend! I am your fan. Tell us about your punk way of life.
I have been into many anarchopunk activities, also member of the MxPxLx (Libertarian Punk Movement), member of the Libertarian Cultural Center CxCxLx, anarchopunk full activist, zines editor and also one of the former members of the radio program “Hate Minutes”. This radio program last longer than three years. I Am also a former member of the band Atack Epiléptico in 1986. Also took part of the MST percussion group, that means Sound and Therapy Movement and with this group I had many concerts like in Ouro Preto´s Festival de Inverno (Winter Fest), in FIT (International Theather Festival), Praça 7 ( A.N.:a famous square of Belo Horizonte), etc.. Our presentations were very performing experiences that included axes in between the other percussion instruments, and they were called “Sonorous Sack”.
Also important to mention that I have always been around other state natives or foreign people even in my home, that is priceless knowledge. About my punx way, I can say that fights against cops and skins were always part of my life.
3. Tell us about your musical projects.
About music, I confess I Am a total disaster. But even that way I insist with Atack Epiléptico and we have as project to play gigs and to record whenever is possible. Our rebel and non conformism is fat soil, we will surely compose many petards.
4. How do you describe the punx scene of yesterday and today and what do you aspect from tomorrow?
The Brazilian punk scene of the 80s was in fact an underground phenomenon, by that time, most of the youth had their voices amplified. The punk movement was there as a form of communication in a country that was living the ashes of the military dictatorship, a way through the marginalized periphery could speak loud. The sound of many bands caused astonishment and the style and behaviour chocked. Now I can see some kind of political ripening going on, a class defined will of consciousness, many people see the movement with admiration and respect. I believe it is a dynamic and eternal school!!! It is true that the punx movement today is a result from everything that happened in the past and the future of the scene relies on what is going on now. Present is what matters most. It is necessary to destroy and construct a lot of stuff right now.
5. Atack Epiléptico still alive, great! Tell us about what is next.
We are already with a new LP ready that will come with two titles: Misantropia: o Legado and Abduzidos pela Desgraça. This album takes various stages of AxEx, it holds old unreleased material and new songs. We are studying the best way to release it, we are not sure if this will be out with Cogumelo. And we still own material for the next album with the new line-up of the band.
6. Your passion, your art, your dream.
My passion is anarchy, with all its meanings and ways. My art comes from my hands. I am a carpenter for years. Can be called men only the ones who work with their hands. My dream is to see humanity out of the capitalistic nightmare! My egoism is that I want top quality life for all.
7. Favourite band, best lyrics, best book, best movie and song.
Band: Atack Epiléptico, lyrics: Terra dos Pindoramas (AxEx), book George Owell´s 1984. Movie: all Brazilian ones from past and now. Song: the sound from the Australian instrument Didgeridoo, created more than 40 thousand years ago by the Aborigenes. It is considered one of the oldest instruments on Earth. The sound is delightful and makes you dizzy, it is like a mantra and leads us to a strong primitivism. I am crazy for the sound of Didgeridoo.
8. I know that you did some movies and documentaries, discuss about that.
I was in two, one called “Carne Grega” (Greek Flesh), that is not porno, but there are some nude shots. It was filmed in a Belo Horizonte center apartment in Jk building in 90s. By this time I had dread locks and it was only me and a girl, called Luna, who lives in Spain today. The guy who shot it lives in Sete Lagoas and I have a copy of it. The other is called “O bolo de Maria Joana” (Maria Joana´s cake; N.A.: kind of space cake). It was filmed inside the Serra Favela. I was a drug dealer in a hilarious short motion track, directed by my friend Evandro. And the documentary is about bands from 70s, 80s and 90s where there are images of AxEx playing and an interview, directed by Rodrigo Minele.
