Interview with Oligarchy
Interview held on 17/12/2009
Made by Laurencce Martins
With Panda Reis (drums)
Hey bangers Culture in weight. Here is Martinez Laurencce session Death Metal and today we will talk with the member of a band that is in oldschool active since 1992. Already started their work independent of record labels, played with banda gringa, as did the escambau the four (laughs). I'm talking about a band experienced and recognized on the national scene. Direct from Sao Paulo (SP), Oligarchy Deaaath Metaaaal (guttural). And to talk a little about the work of the band, no one better than the founder's own, we are here with the drummer Panda Kings!
1 - First, hello, Panda! In active since 1992, man. Congratulations on the job!
Speak partner, all right? Well, in September 1992 we made our first show, face, back and forth continuously followed until the present day. In fact we have to thank everybody who is still with us after so many years.
2 - Tell us about the formation of the band. How and why the oligarchy began?
Since late 2008 we are a new line-up means it is commonplace for me, because when we changed our training to each job, and this time was no different. When we started writing and pre-produce the new album (in 2008), Alex decided to go out and we were forced to seek new members, and we take an old desire: to turn the band into a quintet. Dude, get like millions of bands around the world begin. We were kids, we'd like to rock and one Saturday afternoon, between a drop of lemon and a joint, we decided to form a band, and there was ... kitty to buy instruments, place to find and test more difficult, and we seek today, learn to play.
When we play traditional death metal, I guess because of the time, because of musical taste, maybe ... because the Oligarchy was a mosaic, man, had all the tests: punks, headbangers, rapper's. It was more or less a "community", hahaha! Before we knew each other for all early compositions (and subsequent) were coming out with this guy "death metal dinosaur, you know? Actually why can 't got no need, but as my friend always says Amilcar (Torture Squad): "We are a punk band in the world of death metal and rock me out of crime", Amilcar things, hahaha!
3 - You have released a demo tape in 1995, just three years after the creation of the band. What is "Conviction of the Death"? It was his first job as a musician?
Yes, it was the first time I went into a studio, face, or rehearse in the studio I had tested, and fell face logo in the hands of the legendary Martin Tchello Anonymity. The demo speaks to what we say today: humanity and its various relationship problems, its bourgeois capitalist world, the issues that oppress and exploit all the workers of the world, always with a rousing speech ... not much has changed today, I think we're playing at worst we are writing letters and more complex. The cervical spine is still the same, the inspirations are still here with us.
4 - In 1999, from the second demo tape, the band kicked off the national scene. He managed to record and went on tour. However, since the beginning of the band until the national tour has been almost 10 years. What do you think happened to the band takes 9 years to only then have the work recognized?
Frankly, without that mean that some do not have that recognition that you say, no. We're the same band of 1992, playing in virtually the same places for basically the same number of people. In my view we are far from the bands recognized in Brazil, and meant to be more honest we are still exactly where we should be, because if you look at the attitude of the band, we write and what we advocate, would not give recognition to get from one scene reactionary (in structure) and that values the bands that fit the system "underground, save a few exceptions. The recognition that comes in homeopathic doses (rs), in my case, for example, when Caio (Claustrophobia) came to me and said that after he saw maloqueira the way I play, he changed his view as to whether to play the drums , that to me is a recognition, anonymous, in the ear, but it made sense, because it influences a boy who inspired many others with his music, you're sure to continue here on the B side of the underground.
5 - In Brazil, even taking so long for recognition, do you think is worth doing the work underground? Why?
It depends, man. I look back and see everything that rolled in recent decades and I feel fine in no time I sold, I prostitute, you know? I remember that in 1993 the now defunct record label "Rock It!" Made us an invitation to the cast we enter them, from us to sing in Portuguese. I refused at the time and this refusal makes me even more sense today, then honestly do not know if it's worth ... depends on what each search in the underground and how each views the underground. What I know, brother, is that the underground of today is different from the underground when I was formed. As some people say about me, I am a revolutionary and not a musician (I use my song to spread our ideas and anti-burguesa/capitalista not to pick up chicks and get stoned at the shows.
6 - Nechropolis was the first debut of Oligarchy. What is it? What are the influences for the album?
Not a concept album, not in its essence, perhaps the subject, speaking of shit that humanity has made and is it still is for me the work I enjoy most of the oligarchy, is an album by death metal, that's all .. . (laughs) This CD was the one which was influenced, even if it may seem, it is a piece of everything we hear from a kid, but I think he sounds more like an LP in the late eighties even pulls when I hear it, I can realize that the traditional death metal is latent in all tracks, I like this "son of a bitch" (laughs).
7 - And your personal influences, inside and outside of music, what are they?
Ai fucked! (laughs) I'll be able to be synthetic as broad as possible. What influences me in music are rock bands, whether metal, punk or classic rock, like a lot of other styles such as Rap, Reggae, Soul Music and to MPB. I hear a lot of music that most readers will twist the nose, but taste and fuck! I think today my influence comes more from outside the music, as historians like Hobsbawm, Rochlin, Perry Anderson, Leoncio Basbahum, Mere Del Prioli, Mary Ellen Farrell, Doratiolo and others influence me fucking my influence comes also from the guerrilla movements that passed through the world, you know, the more I study the more I realize that "the world is upside down and nobody noticed (laughs). Now my big inspiration is Capitalism without him and his bourgeois majority, do not write what I write.
8 - How does the process of creation (composition) of the band?
Simple, we arrive to the studio where we rehearse and we started talking about the foundations and ideas that each one has started to play and fit the parts. I admit that is pretty boring, man! Sometimes we are months in the same music, then stresses, we left the studio to burn a bush for a beer and talk football. Others that have come out in one fell swoop, the "press", then we have to write so as not to forget (rs). The CD has music Humanavirus Forged, we recorded it in the recording studio (The Tribe, with the Ciero). For recording, we had rehearsed it like the others, remember that the part of bass, double and grind, as it was rehearsed, but I did at the time and stayed until legalzinho hahaha! We are a band too conventional to the present day where everyone looking for professionalism and perfection, I do not want to be misunderstood, we are a professional band, which has a contract to record, to play and we have established goals, just take that for almost twenty years , like this relaxed, "maloqueiro the slum" same, hahaha. Sometimes it takes a "more serious wing" of the band taking the reins, because if no "pro Panda" for the artouros William and sometimes descends pra pure fun! (laughs)
9 - How is getting the new work "Distiling Hate"? What can fans expect from the band?
Man, I can say that I liked it a lot (rs), and has yet to hear mixed, man, delayed all here in the studio. It's like I said, ta for us all as the first disk, to record fuck, fuck makin a record pra launch, but was to have left already. Recordings delayed, in my opinion, chose the wrong methodology, I noticed it was a year when we were in the studio, but by then it was. What matters is that the studio is good as hell, the guys know burn (too much for my taste) and with much effort, patience and marijuana, are getting the complete cd. I would say it is a hard-faced more than is the Oligarchy, a homogeneous mixture of the two first cd of people with a different spice, our moment of creation has been so fuck that we are ending the production of a pre "3 way split" that will participate later this year and we are talking about the theme of the next album, man hahaha!
Come more daring things in the coming years, even for that I am at a rapid pace for forty years and there is a tendency to get involved with music and less to infiltrate more in the academic portion of my ideas. It's amazing, but there comes a time you look at the scene and not seen as within it ... sorry to disappoint people who enjoy the band, I'm just being honest with this honored zine, you're wasting time with me (laughs). I just do not have much more than a few years to offer the global music underground here a while, the ideas are different, the search totally different from mine. Prejudices, all of them still empreguinados some at much lower doses, some disguised and others in the same way. In the scene, it hinders rather, it bothers me to see neo freely metal concerts, along with some bangers compactuando ideas. It bothers me to see bands paying for open shows, paying for space, you know ... everyone thinks it's normal it is, then I'm wrong.
I have other musical projects, most of them within the alternative music, they go away from the media, even underground, quietly and dissemination, sometimes I play there in the "Augusta" one of those projects, sometimes participate in collections around the world, but I tanned a lot to write about history, philosophy, politics and the climate system, have done a lot of trampos and I tanned as hell! But to answer (written as hell hahaha, is that I'm smoking weed while one answer hahaha) The band's Distilling Hatred in 2010 and 2010 we will also participate in a "3 way split" with unprecedented sounds, cover and re-recordings, and we will play there, where we call, then in 2011 to see the possibility of launching a new cd, give me boner while playing live, write and release records be around.
10 - On the phrase you use, "We have too much hate to distil", this is an old school attitude and when we refer to Death Metal. What do you think of modern Death Metal? There is a difference in attitude?
So many do not know, because I only have what I like, rarely hear anything out of my musical taste, so if opinas would be false. What I can say is that "Melodic Death Metal" hurts the ears (laughs), and on modern death metal that you speak I know there ... I will try to hear something, give me a ring on which bands to hear? (laughs)
11 - The band has come to present only as a double and you were on a stick when. Today, in 2009, the oligarchy could be presented with only two members?
No. Today's low is a key part of their sound, and at that time (1993 if I remember correctly) was possible. Today the band's sound is different as hell that day, but we did a great show on that tour in Minas Gerais!
12 - What was the show you most marked when you played? Why?
Puta, man ... fuck, huh? (laughs) With Napalm Death was cool to be a fan and can see that the guys are not assholes (laughs). There are others that have marked the "role" as one within the Rio Casimiro de Abreu where no road was paved and had everything at the peak, banger, punk, bald, function, and it was crazy! They had others as in Londrina where Alex peed in the hotel room (laughs), had one in Macaé William and I combed the whole city behind marijuana, hahaha, one with Andralls where the "role" traveling the city was surreal, vixiii ... was one where I do not remember the city, the public, about 150 people took the cow and paid a van and rent the equipment for us to go play there face ... fuck that was, until today came chills!
13 - Panda, you believe in luck?
It depends on what sort that is your question (laughs) A lot of common sense I definitely do not believe.
14 - Game Quick:
A band: Ratos de Porão
An album: True Carnage (Six Feet Under)
A song: All da Cássia Eller (yes I'm a fan of this woman since 1989)
A book: The Age of Extremes (Eric Hobsbawm)
Phrase: Be realistic, demand the impossible
15 - Man, again congratulations for the work and congratulations for all those years dedicated to art and the underground. It's really admirable persistence of people like you that even before the problems of a country carnival remains steadfast in the fight with extreme music. To close, leave a message for the staff of Culture in weight, for fans of Oligarchy and the headbangers in general.
Thank you, humbly even, thank you. And continue helping our underground, whatever it is (laughs), requiring me and my band is just talk. And I wanted to apologize if displeased someone, be disappointed by someone and my sincere words and remember: "strangers become best friends, best friends become strangers." This makes little sense today. Strong follow what they believe and always seek its version of the facts, do not play the ideas of others. See you on stage here in his hometown in 2010.
