With Spiritual Carnage (Guilherme Aguiar, and Greco Hemar Messiah)

Hello friends, here is Laurencce Martins, back to one of the sites of heavier extreme national scene: CULTURE IN WEIGHT. Today we'll talk about a band that already has nearly quarter-century of existence, SPIRITUAL Carnage. Let us know a little more of that death metal band that has raised the banner of gender for several intense years. Representing the band, the guitarist Guilherme Aguiar and Greco and vocalist Messiah Hemar give the letter.

Laurencce: How will staff, okay? First, thanks for contributing to the extreme scene.

Guilherme: We appreciate that the Spiritual Carnage for the opportunity to talk about something personal pro Weight of Culture in our work and show you guys in general through you! Somehow we all contribute to the extreme Brazilian scene, either as a band, either as public or the media specialist is responsible for the circulation of information.

Laurencce: For staff to know more about the band, where did the idea for the name SPIRITUAL Carnage?

Hemar: When I founded the band and Skowronski, we discussed a lot about the causes of tragedy, poverty, epidemics, massacres, and finally, destruction of the planet and humanity, and concluded that everything in the background was related to the church, political thoughts of selfish power, beliefs, religious fanaticism, etc.. Lack of spirituality, although I think that's the big question of all: lack of spirituality. It was based on these results, and all this carnage that humanity is generating today and yesterday, we had the idea to put that name: SLAUGHTER SLAUGHTER or SPIRITUAL SPIRITUAL also think that with that name, could open up a range of ideas in songwriting.

Laurencce: The band has nearly 25 years of existence, but only recently (2006) recorded the first official (VOICES OF DARKNESS). Congratulations on winning even after many years after inception of the band. I would like you to put readers right to insist that this area is undervalued in terms of quantity that is extreme metal.

Greco: We recognize that we should have done more with respect to recordings by the time the band has. But this time was not easy to have a band, instruments, and had to travel more if we wanted to record quality sound. Even so did many shows and recorded five demos, the album Voices of Darkness and the band managed to keep active the whole time. I believe the reason is the continuing extreme taste for heavy music and just the appreciation and encouragement from the public metal, which although not as great as in other popular styles, but they are extremely loyal.

Laurencce: It is noticed that the scene of Goias is getting stronger by both bands as part of festivals that occur with greater frequency and intensity. The Spiritual Carnage logically part of this current. I know how you see the scene being goiana inside:

William: In our shows we see a new crowd and those who have always supported us during these 22 years, and managed to attract both the staff of Death, Thrash and Black Metal. Thus, we renew our public and every day we make more and more people have access to our sound and history, since we were the first to play extreme music in Goiania. Many bands are gone, many are born, others are already looking for your space and realize that changed some minds, the sound has changed and especially the attitude has changed. It's all too easy today to write and produce an album or song, as the Internet and its resources allowed such action. That's a good point, making it easier to produce more bands more economically. On the other hand, you lose that lust to hear something old, studying hard to compose something and really feel and experience what it is producing. Here in SPIRITUAL still has people that writer writes and composes on the guitar riffs and show with great pride for the rest of the band! Hahah! It's all very old-school right!
With regard to the festivals I am very happy that every year are bigger, more public and merging with the new bands veterans. Emerging new producers, bands coming out of Goiânia and moving the circuit. The Spiritual Carnage takes off his hat to most growers here, excluding of course those who promote and cover events not value the artists copyright. This is a very poor culture.

Laurencce: Returning to the band, you have participated in several events involving established artists, both national and international. Any in particular? For what reason?

Greco: All have been important and gratifying because we were always invited by organizers who recognize our history and who respect us as people and musicians. Sepultura, Krisiun, Master, Cannibal Corpse and many other bands on the list, but for Destruction had a penchant for being a band we liked kids and since then until it was unimaginable that we could play the same stage.

L: What are your personal influences within and outside of music?

Guilherme: I have a lot of influence of oriental music! I really like Ravi Shankar and all those strange tempos of oriental music. As a person I admire Chuck Schuldiner (Death), Ihsahn (Emperor) and Paul Speckmann (Master), for all these years living and breathing in the underground. I also love the way the entrepreneur Peter (Vader), the genius of Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad) and the inclusion of sound in the eastern Western bands like Nile, Behemoth and Melechesh!
Outside of music I admire the thought of Sartre and Heidegger, who sometimes helps me a lot in the compositions of the band. The other members also have their diverse influences.

Hemar: Black Sabbath, Destruction, Kreator, Morbid Angel, Death, Slayer, etc..

Greco: My influences are what I hear, or almost all death metal bands in the world, some thrash and some heavy metal.

Laurencce: Create apparently looks like a complex work. How you blend their influences to the creative process?

William: In the band all create and give suggestions. The Greco Hemar come with riffs and recorded in the recorder and guitar (hahahaha!) and I scan and come with a little bit more produced. We all have the same musical influences, so much easier to work, because we kind of already know what the intent of the music in the riffs of each. We're very influenced by the band!

Laurencce: The new work of the Spiritual Carnage has a name? What fans can expect from the genre?

Guilherme: We do not have the name, but we already have many ideas and have even thought the cover art! Everything will be done with much thought and hard work as we expect a good result of our compositions. Will have shorter songs, big, old-school and a mix of traditional and more technical metal.

Laurencce: Do you think there is a recipe for a band to conquer space? What do you suggest for the bands that are getting?

William: It's not a recipe, but unless you work hard and persist in what you want, nothing in life flows. What a band needs to have at hand is your recorded material. That is fact. What happens today and it makes me very skeptical of new bands, is recording a song, you see, A song, put on Myspace and come out wanting to play in the horror film festivals. Where have these surveys or polls to open a band concert gringo or participate in something, just get this A band that has recorded music, because they do not focus on hard work and long term, promote a wave of 'new sound' and win because have more friends to vote than others. This is not to conquer space with the public and producers. It's a passing fad that most often ends with the end of the band.
Another thing is never pay to have highlighted, that is, buy everything and everyone to talk in front of your band! Pay a placeholder in a magazine to promote and merch is one thing, now pay to play, buy and producers sticking out money around the world is nasty!
